Ministry Name: Worship Committee

Purpose: The purpose of your work area: To help Francis Burns United Methodist Church offer settings for vital worship in which people experience the presence of God and grow in the knowledge of God. GOALS: To provide opportunities for worship that will help the congregation experience its relationship with God and will help it live more faithfully as a Christian community. Description of the ministry: The Worship Committee is the body responsible for the church’s entire worship experience. This body includes several ministries that work to make the worship experience one filled with spirit and inclusiveness.

The following ministries fall under the auspices of the Worship Committee:

  • Greeters - Provides an open welcome for all worshipers entering the church.
  • Communion Stewards - Responsible for preparing the alter for the partaking of the Holy Communion each 1st Sunday
  • Music Department - Directs and is responsible for all music needs for the church
  • Sr. Ushers - Keepers of the door during all worship services. Adults 19 on up • Jr. Ushers - Keepers of the door during youth Sunday, 2nd Sunday of the month. Youth ages 13 to 18 years of age.
  • Acolytes - Bring forth the light at the beginning of worship service and at the end of worship, carriers of the light to the world.
  • Sound Technicians – Handles the sound during all worship services including distribution of audio tapes of the worship service.
  • Dance Ministry - Praise and worship through creative dance
  • Drama Ministry – Praise and worship through creative drama presentations.

In addition to these other duties, the Worship Committee coordinates members each Sunday to bring the weekly announcements during worship service as well as keep the alter drapes updated as the worship season changes. The Worship Committee works under the direction of the pastor and works to support his efforts to enhance the church experience through praise and worship of our God.
