
Ministry Name: Membership Committee
Chairperson: Regina King
Purpose: The Membership Chairperson/Secretary is the first point of contact for members and prospective members upon joining Francis Burns United Methodist. He or she assists in maintaining accurate membership records so that the congregation can help its members grow as Christian disciples. The committee also prepares and distributes the bi-annual Membership Pictorial Directories, processes new membership applications and renewals and communicates all necessary information.
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Update the membership roster as new members join, members transfer, and cease affiliation with the local church.
- Work with pastor to contact inactive members and initiate removal of names from church roster through appropriate process.
- Take pictures of new members when they join. Place pictures on a bulletin board in the fellowship hall.
- Keep records of baptisms and deceased. Assist pastor with preparing Charge Conference Report.
- Coordinate New Members Classes quarterly or as needed.
- Coordinate Confirmation Classes at least annually as needed.
- Send birthday cards to members.
- Host a cake/ice cream birthday social at the close of service each 1st Sunday.
- Acknowledge all new births in the congregation with a card to parents.
- Collect visitors’ cards from ushers and send letter/postcard to first time visitors the week following the visit.
- Investigate placing sign-in books in the pew to take weekly attendance. Keep attendance records so we can follow up when members are missing from church.
- Recruit new members.
